Eloise today

Picture
Eloise Hospital's last Administration Building
Eloise Hospital is the setting for much of Detroit Breakdown. Eloise was the Wayne County insane asylum, county house, and tubercular sanatorium from 1839 to 1979.

It's gone now but has a fascinating history. At one time more than 10,000 patients and inmates called Eloise home, and it was really a city unto itself. Eloise was located on over 900 acres and was comprised of seventy-eight buildings at its peak. Now four remain. Most of the land has been sold off or lies empty.
